24th Greater Mekong Subregion Ministerial Conference

The People’s Republic of China (PRC) will host the 24th Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) Ministerial Conference on 4 November 2020, with the theme “Pave the Way to a More Integrated, Inclusive, Sustainable and Prosperous GMS.” 

This year’s meeting, to be held via web-based conferencing, will finalize key deliverables for the 7th GMS Summit set for March 2021—the GMS Economic Cooperation Program Strategic Framework 2030 (GMS-2030) and the GMS COVID-19 Response and Recovery Plan 2021–2023.

The GMS Ministerial Conference is an annual meeting that brings together the GMS Ministers of Cambodia, PRC, Lao People's Democratic Republic, Myanmar, Thailand, and Viet Nam to provide policy direction for the GMS program and oversee progress in identifying and implementing results-oriented subregional cooperation initiatives.

The sessions will include the following:

  • Presentation on the GMS-2030
     
  • Presentation on the COVID-19 Response and Recovery Plan 2021–2023
     
  • Reports on recent and ongoing activities:
    • The 11th GMS Economic Corridors Forum,
       
    • GMS Development Partners’ Meeting,
       
    • GMS Business Council, and
    • Presentation on the Study, the Greater Mekong Subregion 2030 and Beyond: Integration, Upgrading, Cities, and Connectivity.

  • Updates on the 7th GMS Summit

Ministers, senior officials, and Asian Development Bank officials, development partners, the private sector, and knowledge institutions will participate in the meeting.
