Renewable Energy Manufacturing: Opportunities for Southeast Asia

On
Renewable Energy Manufacturing: Opportunities for Southeast Asia cover.

Southeast Asia is looking at huge opportunities in the manufacture of solar photovoltaic panels, electric two-wheelers, and batteries, with room to grow in both production capacity and demand given the global push to decarbonize.

McKinsey & Co. estimates Asia has a $5-trillion addressable market size for green businesses in 2030, with low-carbon mobility and clean power contributing 35%–40%. In Southeast Asia, the contribution of these two segments is estimated at $90 billion–$100 billion.

This is an executive summary of a presentation by McKinsey Asia Sustainability Practice Partner and Leader Vaibhav Dua at the Asian Development Bank's Southeast Asia Development Symposium on 30 March. The presentation, “Southeast Asia to Scale Up Renewable Energy Manufacturing,” examined the regional opportunities in the manufacture of solar PV, electric vehicles, and batteries.
