In developing countries, 52% of healthcare costs are borne by patients, resulting in 100 million people pushed into extreme poverty every year due to high out-of-pocket healthcare costs. In Southeast Asia alone, healthcare costs drive 65 million people into extreme poverty and account for one in three new cases of poverty every year.

This report illustrates how financial technology or fintech can be leveraged to improve health systems and health outcomes. It discusses existing applications of fintech and health, as well as future opportunities, in Indonesia, the Philippines, and Singapore.
