Southeast Asian countries need to go "further and farther" together in advancing their net-zero ambitions, said United Nations Deputy Secretary-General Amina J. Mohammed at the Asian Development Bank's (ADB) fourth Southeast Asia Development Symposium (SEADS).
She called for accelerated action and stressed the need for international cooperation to speed the decarbonization of high-emitting sectors. "No one country alone will crack the nut to decarbonizing the steel, cement, shipping, and aviation sectors,” she said.
With the theme, "Imagining a Net-Zero ASEAN," SEADS 2023 explored measures governments, communities, and the private sector could take to progress toward carbon neutrality.
