This publication outlines how digital twins can be harnessed to help develop resilient and sustainable infrastructure.

Digital twin is proving to be a versatile tool for planning and decision-making. Various industries are now using the technology to transform their operations—including enjoying lower operation, maintenance, and replacement costs; and creating infrastructure designs that are optimized for future threats, such as climate change. By providing accurate and real-time data to decision-makers, digital twins can improve a government’s service delivery and support decision-making, which will ultimately benefit communities.

This framework explains how these dynamic representations of real-world assets can be used to enhance planning, reduce costs, manage risks, and optimize design and construction. It provides guidance to support the creation of digital twins, drawing on examples from around the world. It also outlines some of the many ways digital twins can be used to support decision-making and includes links to additional resources.
