Ramping up the Ambition of Transport-Related Climate Policy Targets in Asia and the Pacific

This session will explore how countries in Asia–Pacific can strengthen transport-related climate targets and translate them into actionable policies and investments.
Transport is central to meeting national climate goals. Yet transport-specific targets remain uneven across Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), leaving a gap between what countries commit to and what the sector can deliver.
The session will examine regional trends in low-carbon transport, including how transport policies across Southeast Asia and neighboring subregions align with national climate targets. It will present the launch of Delivering India's NDC Targets: Role of Transport, a new report by The Energy and Resources Institute, offering methods and lessons applicable to Southeast Asian countries preparing or revising their own transport commitments.
New tools from the Asian Transport Observatory will also be introduced, covering development assistance flows, electric mobility supply chains, and multi-hazard climate risk across Asia and the Pacific, including Southeast Asia. Participants will discuss how stronger data, analytical tools, and regional collaboration can underpin more ambitious and implementable climate targets for the transport sector.
The session is organized as part of an initiative by the Asian Development Bank, supported by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.
