This session will examine how safe system measures can protect children, youth, and vulnerable people who ride and travel on motorcycles across Asia and the Pacific.
Across much of Asia and the Pacific, the motorcycle is the family car, the delivery van, and the daily commute. But for the children, young people, and vulnerable riders who depend on them, motorcycles are also where road trauma concentrates.
The session will examine the burden of death and serious injury borne by child, youth, and vulnerable motorcycle riders and passengers, and the specific risks faced by women and persons with disabilities. Drawing on regional research and country experience, speakers will present safe system requirements for safer motorcycling alongside innovations in ride-hailing and delivery, helmet use, and community-based programs. Participants will gain practical insights into measures that reduce motorcycle-related trauma.
The session is part of the Road Safety Capacity Building Program webinar series Protecting Lives: Children, Youth and Vulnerable Road Users within the Safe System, which examines child and youth road trauma and replicable measures to protect vulnerable road users across Asia and the Pacific.
