A seminar on digitizing visitor registration data and environmental user fees was held in Davao del Norte on 9 to 10 November 2023.

Visitor registration systems and environmental user fees are increasingly common and possible for ecologically and socially conscious island destinations around the world, especially those with restricted access. The digital technology to implement them is relatively simple and straightforward, but implementation and enforcement are barriers to adoption.

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) organized a seminar on digitizing visitor registration data and environmental user fees in Davao del Norte on 9 to 10 November 2023. The seminar discussed how the Island Garden City of Samal could improve tourism management by digitizing visitor data and tracking the collection of environmental user fees in real-time using smart technologies.

The seminar was supported by ADB's Southeast Asia Sustainable Tourism Facility, which is funded by the Republic of Korea e-Asia and Knowledge Partnership Fund and Spanish Cooperation Fund for Technical Assistance.
