This webinar will demonstrate how practical drainage design tools can support climate-resilient culvert sizing, roadside drainage, and maintenance planning for road projects.
Road drainage failure is one of the most common causes of road damage and disruption. But as rainfall grows more intense, can drainage designs built on historical assumptions still hold?
The session will present two practical tools, a Drainage Design Tool and a Culvert Sizing Calculator, developed through Asian Development Bank (ADB) -supported work in Timor-Leste on climate-resilient road infrastructure standards. It will demonstrate how rainfall data, catchment characteristics, return periods, climate change allowances, and blockage assumptions translate into consistent design inputs, drawing on drainage challenges observed in small island and mountainous settings, including intense rainfall, steep catchments, culvert blockage, overtopping, erosion, and scour.
For Southeast Asia, where many countries are making major decisions on rural and highway road investments under increasing climate risk, these tools offer practical support for more consistent, climate-informed drainage design and maintenance.
