This report examines the current and potential role of digital technology in fostering the inclusion and economic empowerment of people with disabilities in Southeast Asia.
Asia and the Pacific is estimated to have 690 million people with disabilities, a number which is expected to increase due to ageing populations, climate change-related natural disasters, and growing chronic health conditions.
Inclusion of people with disabilities is a key priority for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), with digital technology seen playing a key role in addressing some of the barriers they face.
This report examines the current and potential role of digital technology in fostering the inclusion and economic empowerment of people with disabilities in Southeast Asia. The opportunities brought about by new technologies for people with disabilities in terms of tech-enabled working environments, digital jobs, and education are discussed.
