In the wake of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, digital transactions from governments to citizens nearly tripled in 2020. When implemented responsibly, digital payments are swifter, safer, and more transparent than cash.
The UN Principles for Responsible Digital Payments sets out guidelines for governments, companies, and international organizations to ensure digital payments meet people's needs, while protecting the most vulnerable.
The principles are developed by the UN-based Better Than Cash Alliance, which is a partnership of governments, companies, and international organizations that accelerates the transition from cash to responsible digital payments to advance the Sustainable Development Goals.
