This webinar will examine the “double-edged sword” of Asian road infrastructure, acknowledging its role in fostering access and economic growth while also recognizing its negative externalities.

Asia's road sector faces complex challenges. With its massive population and economic output, Asia needs to improve its road infrastructure to improve access for millions and sustain growth. At the same time, with the road sector facing a critical challenge in decarbonization, the region needs to make sure growing road infrastructure will not be at the expanse of the environment.

This webinar features a presentation from Sudhir Gota, an internationally recognized expert in sustainable transport with over 2 decades of global experience, who will examine the “double-edged sword” of Asian road infrastructure, acknowledging its role in fostering access and economic growth while also recognizing its negative externalities. He will investigate how Asian countries are adapting their road policies in response to global climate and development goals, with research analyzing over 500 policy documents from 30 Asian economies.

Gota is co-team leader of the Asian Transport Outlook, a joint initiative of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank. He contributes to shaping transport policies and investments across Asia.

The event is part of Green Roads Webinar Series organized by ADB's Transport Sector Group.
