This webinar explored how policymakers and industry leaders across the region could respond to how artificial intelligence is upending labor markets.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is reshaping labor markets globally, with significant implications for high-skilled cognitive roles, once thought to be safe from technological disruption.

In Southeast Asia, this disruption is posing a parallel challenge—the rapid advancement of generative AI is unbundling tasks, deskilling white collar roles, and redrawing traditional career pathways, undermining efforts to identify and build the next generation of good jobs. With a large informal sector also under pressure from advances in automation, the region faces an urgent problem in determining what the next phase of job creation should look like. But what if the AI revolution can reimagine work and economies, making it a catalyst, rather than threat, to social mobility?

This webinar explored how policymakers and industry leaders across the region could respond to how AI is upending labor markets.

It also launched and shared key findings from a new report, Augmenting Intelligence: Shaping the Future of Work in Southeast Asia, from the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change. Drawing on original research and in-depth analysis from Singapore, Viet Nam, and the Philippines, the report introduces a new framework for “augmented intelligence,” with AI as a tool to elevate human capability and to redesign work in a way that unlocks inclusive economic growth.
