The coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic has disrupted children's education worldwide and is expected to negatively impact long-term prospects, particularly of low-income economies.

With large-scale school closures worldwide, students were forced to do online learning from home. Many struggled in the transition due to the lack of digital infrastructure and poor home environment. Teachers also grappled with the unfamiliar challenge on teaching and evaluating students in on online environment.

This webinar discussed how the pandemic transformed education and how students and teachers responded. Policies to prevent further erosion of hard-won gains in education were also discussed.

The webinar was organized by the Asian Development Bank's (ADB) Southeast Asia Department (SERD). The SERD Policy Talk (SPOT) features conversations on new ideas and development beyond office walls. It aims to inspire people to explore issues outside their normal area of work and encourages active interaction and debate among the participants with their varied perspectives and approaches.
