This report shows how a pilot hybrid solar photovoltaic project in the Philippines could be scaled up to other off-grid communities across the archipelago.

Five years ago, a pilot solar photovoltaic hybrid project on Malalison Island in Antique in the Philippines went online, providing electricity service 24/7 instead of just 4 hours.

This report assesses the socioeconomic impact of the project and shows how 188 households and businesses in Malalison benefited from lower energy prices through the hybrid diesel-based scheme, which helped lift living standards and livelihoods. Explaining the role of private sector partners, the report shows how the hybrid project can be replicated with the backing of organizations such as the Asian Developent Bank (ADB) to bring clean, sustainable energy to all.
