The coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic put global tourism into its greatest crisis on record in 2020 as international arrivals fell 73% after nearly all governments around the world introduced a range of measures to restrict travel.
Asia and the Pacific was not spared, with arrivals plummeting 84% at the end of 2020 and over 50% of the destinations remained fully closed to international travel.
