The Platform Economy: Southeast Asia’s Digital Growth Catalyst

The platform economy is flourishing in Southeast Asia and is well-positioned to bring new opportunities and innovation in developing the region's wider digital economy, says a new report from Grab's Tech for Good Institute and Bain & Company.

The Platform Economy: Southeast Asia’s Digital Growth Catalyst examines the opportunities and challenges facing digital platforms and outlines priorities governments need to address to reap the full benefits for consumers, market players, and economies.

The report says Southeast Asia has the foundations for a vibrant platform economy, given that 7 in 10 of the population of its six biggest markets have already used digital platforms in the past 12 months.

The report defines online platform as a digital service that facilitates interactions between two or more distinct but interdependent set of users (whether firms or individuals) who interact via the internet.
